AfCFTA Secretariat to Join Africa House Future Forum at Davos

The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has confirmed its participation in the Africa House Future Forum, scheduled to convene in Davos, Switzerland, from January 20-24, 2025. This engagement marks a significant collaboration between the AfCFTA Secretariat and Africa House, a leading platform dedicated to promoting Africa's innovative future and global positioning.

The Africa House Future Forum, now in its fifth year, will be held concurrently with the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting. Under the theme “Africa: The Future Lives Here, Leading Generations into a New Era,” the forum will provide a strategic platform for dialogue and partnership building, focusing on Africa's ascendance in the global economy.

The AfCFTA, encompassing 55 countries and representing the world's largest free trade area by number of participating nations, holds immense potential for transforming the African economic landscape. By dismantling trade barriers and facilitating regional integration, the AfCFTA is poised to stimulate intra-African trade, attract foreign direct investment, and generate employment opportunities.

The collaboration between the AfCFTA Secretariat and Africa House signifies a shared commitment to advancing the continent's economic agenda. The forum will delve into critical issues pertaining to the AfCFTA's implementation, including:

  • Expediting the Implementation of the AfCFTA: Addressing challenges and maximizing the agreement's benefits through targeted strategies.

  • Stimulating Investment in Key Sectors: Identifying and promoting investment opportunities across vital sectors such as infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy.

  • Cultivating Africa's Youth Dividend: Empowering young entrepreneurs and fostering their engagement in the continent's economic transformation.

The forum's proximity to the WEF Annual Meeting will facilitate interaction with global leaders and policymakers, enabling African stakeholders to actively contribute to shaping the global economic discourse.

“The Africa House Future Forum is honored to collaborate with the AfCFTA Secretariat in this year's program,” stated Shanthi Annan, Executive Director. “Their invaluable expertise and insights will be instrumental in examining the pivotal role of the AfCFTA in driving Africa's economic growth and development trajectory.”

The Africa House Future Forum is poised to be a crucial gathering for stakeholders invested in Africa's economic prospects.
